Reset Your Rhythm
Creating a Gentle Wellness Routine Before Autumn
The summer’s coming to an end, and with that, the slower pace, the sunshine, and the freedom from schedules. Maybe you’ve spent time travelling, unwinding, or just catching your breath after a busy year. We can see the change in nature (the colours are more golden) and the days shorten ever so slightly. It’s a reminder that, like nature, it's time to gently reset.
Think of this as your soft launch into autumn; not a big push, not a drastic overhaul, just a mindful moment to ask:
“How do I want to feel as I head into the new season?”
Easing Out of Holiday Mode
Coming back from that slower summer pace too quickly can leave us feeling off balance and overwhelmed. But you don’t have to flip the switch overnight. Try bringing back rhythm in small, nurturing ways:
Start waking up a little earlier: 10 or 15 minutes is enough. This gives you space for a slower, more intentional morning
Eat with the seasons: Think late-summer produce like berries, tomatoes, courgettes, runner beans and those early apples. These help your body naturally adjust to the change in temperature and energy
Move in a way that feels grounding: Gentle walks, yoga, stretching, or dancing in the kitchen, anything that helps you reconnect with your body after the “off” mode of holidays
Back to School, Back to You
Whether or not you have kids heading back to school, there’s something about September that feels like a fresh start. It’s a good moment to pause and ask:
What do I want my routines to look like this season?
How can I support my mental and physical energy as demands increase?
What habits do I want to bring with me from summer?
This doesn’t have to be a rigid list of goals. It could be as simple as: “I want my mornings to feel calm”, “I want to protect my weekends for rest” or “I want to prioritise nourishing food and joyful movement.”
Let this be the foundation of your autumn rhythm
Less Pressure, More Joy
A new season often tempts us to sign up for all the things; like the new year, there’s a sense of refreshed motivation that prompts us to want to do more, be more, and achieve more. But here’s your gentle reminder:
You don’t need to do it all. No one is doing it all.
Children don’t need to be in five after-school clubs to thrive. In fact, doing less often allows them to enjoy more. One or two well-chosen activities they genuinely love can be far more nourishing than a jam-packed calendar that leaves everyone stressed and exhausted.
And the same goes for us. It's not about how many classes, workshops, or commitments we can squeeze in, it's about what actually lights us up.
Busy isn't a badge of honour
Let's stop filling our diaries just to feel “productive” and start making space for things that feel meaningful, energising, and enjoyable.
So, ask yourself:
“What feels like a “yes” in my body right now?”
“What can I let go of for this season?”
A Gentle Reset Routine
Here’s a simple, no-pressure routine to help you ease into the new season:
Morning Check-In
Light a candle, sip something warm, sit with your thoughts and ask yourself: How do I want today to feel?
Your Moment in Nature
Step outside daily, even just for 5 minutes, 30 if you can. Our minds and bodies need this time outdoors; we weren’t born to be inside all day at desks or in our cars. Let your body start syncing with the changing light and air.
Mini Mind Dump
A little journaling or to-do list moment can help clear the mental clutter.
Top Tip: It feels like a treat when you pair this with a hot cuppa!
One Nourishing Meal
Focus on one meal a day that feels like a hug from the inside out: nourishing, seasonal ingredients, a healthy mix of food groups and lots of colour. I love a stew in my slow cooker.
Evening Wind-Down
Try dimming lights or lighting a candle, turning off screens earlier, reading and having a little stretch or herbal tea ritual.
None of this needs to be perfect. We don’t need to live life as a regime; it’s about support, not pressure.
Do It Your Way
This season can be yours to shape if you want it to be. You can choose to gently and mindfully become in tune with your own rhythm
Remember: you don’t need to “bounce back” or “get back on track.” You’re not behind. You’re just transitioning from one season to another.
